Effects of chlorothiazide on specific renal functions in hypertension.

چکیده
A PREVIOUS report on the mechanism of action of chlorothiazidel was based on observations on hemodynamic functions. Studies of specific renal functions were done concurrently in some of the patients and in others that were treated identically, except for the omission of some of the hemodynamic observations. The results show that, in addition to its recognized saluretic and kaluretic properties,2 chlorothiazide in therapeutic doses may depress glomerular filtration, may increase blood urea, and causes a paradoxical increase in ''osmotic ceiling.'

Effects of Short-term Renovascular Hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes on Cardiac Functions in Rats
Background: The cardiac effects simultaneously occurring during experimental hypertension and diabetes have rarely been investigated. This study aimed at examining the effects of short-term renovascular hypertension and type 2 diabetes on cardiac functions. Methods: Five groups (7 each) of male Sprague-Dawley rats, including a control group, a diabetes (induced by Streptozocin and Nicotinamide)...
متن کاملA Propensity Score Analysis of Renal Dysfunction in Patients after On-Pump and Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
INTRODUCTION- Cardiovascular disease has emerged as a major health burden worldwide with coronary artery disease [CAD] causing highest mortality and morbidity. Coronary revascularization is the preferred treatment for patients with multivessel CAD. Based on the application of cardiopulmonary bypass [CPB], Coronary revascularization can be on-pump [OPCAB] or off-pump [CABG].The CPB is known to h...

T HE DEVELOPMENT of chlorothiazide has proved to be one of the most significant advances in clinical medicine in the past decade. No attenmpt will be made to annotate the vast literature, which confirms its remarkable therapeutic efficacy. Rather, the purpose of this discussion is to consider in more detail certain pharmacologic properties of chlorothiazide that not only permit better treatment...
متن کاملHemodynamic and hypotensive effects of long-term therapy with chlorothiazide.
T HE value of any drug in the treatment of hypertension rests in the last analysis on the frequeney and magnitude of its depressor effect on the blood pressure and upon whether it corrects the elevated peripheral resistance, characteristic of essential hypertension. Although the hypotensive action of chlorothiazide has been previously studied, -3 nio attempt has yet been made to determine its u...
متن کاملOrigins of the uricosuric response.
The acute effects of intravenous (i.v.) probenecid and chlorothiazide on renal urate handling were investigated in paired studies in normal men. Uricosuric responses to these agents were compared in the same subjects, both without and with pyrazinamide (PZA) pretreatment. Assuming that PZA selectively inhibits the tubular secretion of urate and that uricosuric agents act by increasing the excre...
